Pride

Pride is something that all of us struggle with. Most of us don't realize it, nor do we want to change. Most people don't realize pride destroys you until you're gone. I did some research and I asked a friend what sickness will kill you before you realize you're even sick...
Pride is like a brain aneurysm.

A brain aneurysm is a weak bulging spot on the wall of the brain artery. This weak bulging spot is very much like a thin balloon. Over time, the blood flows within the artery and pounds against the thinned portion of the wall and aneurysms form silently from wear and tear on the arteries. As the artery wall becomes gradually thinner from the dilation, the blood flow causes the weakened wall to swell outward. This pressure may cause the aneurysm to rupture and allow blood to escape into the space around the brain. A ruptured brain aneurysm can cause sudden death, and if not causing death it is sure to cause brain damage.

Pride is a weak bulging spot on the wall of our souls. This weak spot is also very much like a thin balloon. Over time, a haughty spirit will flow within us and will pound against this weak spot and pride forms silently from wear and tear on our soul. As the soul's wall becomes gradually thinner from the pressure, the haughty spirit causes the weakened wall to swell outward. This pressure may cause the soul to rupture and allow pride to escape into our thoughts and mind, consuming our soul completely. A ruptured soul can cause complete disconnection from God, and even if by a tiny chance it doesn't cause "complete" disconnection... your relationship with God will be distant.

I did some research in the Bible.
These are a few of the many verses
I found on pride and humility.
Open up your Bible and
take a look for yourselves.

Love

Love used to be a whole... something perfect. There was no enmity and there was no hate. A "perfect" creation, a "perfect" world, a "perfect" love. Look around now, think about everything that happened today, everything that happened this last week. What happened to this life? Yes, we see love. Very plainly sometimes. But it seems as if love is being choked out by hate, enmity, and death. There is no longer a "perfect" world. How can something that was created so beautifully turn to something so wretched, so ugly? If God is "good" how could his creation turn so far from its original beauty? Why is there death, why is there sadness, suffering? Why is there hate and "sin"? It seems as though people don't believe in God until something bad happens, usually something horrible. That's when people react. And usually when people react, instead of calling out to God they point fingers at God blaming Him for what happened. But God isn't the one to blame. He isn't the one who screwed our life. We had that covered on our own. Back in the garden when God gave us a perfect world He allowed the Devil to tempt us. He could have easily made the Devil leave us be. But maybe he wanted us to have a choice. Maybe he wanted us to choose Him, instead of just having to live with Him because there were no other options. He wasn't running a prison, was He? He let us live our life, and he wanted us to choose Him, He wanted us to choose to love Him. But we were selfish so we chose our lives and we chose to love and live for ourselves. When Satan showed up in the garden in the form of a snake he questioned God's authority, "Did God really say?" Once that question was out there, a seed of doubt was planted. And like any seed would do, it grew. It grew in Eve's heart and she chose to live for herself. She chose to turn from God and chose her own way of life, apart from  her Creator. When God created us in the beginning he entrusted us with His glory, we fell short. When we turned our backs to Him and chose life on our own, apart from God... that's when we fell short of His glory. When we disobeyed the Lord and chose our own walk of life on a path where he was not leading. When we made that decision, and yes, "we" chose! Not God, not the Devil... us. As hard as that is sometimes, we need to own our mistakes. Not so they can drag us down but so we can learn from them. We chose "sin" which separated us from God. God didn't bring hate, He didn't bring death and misery into this world. We did. When we made the choice to leave God's side, to leave His perfect Love and his protection. So... what happens next, if we're by sin separated from God is there any hope for such a hopeless people? Truth is, yes there is hope, but I'll have to write about that another day.

The Love That Never Fails

His love never fails and it never gives up.

In Psalms 136, "for His steadfast love endures forever" is repeated twenty-six times.
Steadfast, Endures, and Forever are three words that are hard for humans to comprehend because no one is completely steadfast, no one fully endures, and no one is forever. So let's pick these three words apart so we can understand them a little more. Then we may be able to recognize why the psalmist mentions this phrase twenty-six times.

STEADFAST means...

fixed in direction
steadily directed
firm in purpose
resolution
faith
attachment
unwavering
resolution
faith
adherence
firmly established
firmly fixed in place or position

ENDURES means...

to hold out against
sustain without impairment or yielding
undergo
to bear without resistance or with patience
tolerate
to admit of
allow
bear
to continue to exist
last
to support adverse force or influence of any kind
suffer without yielding
suffer patiently

to have or gain continued or lasting acknowledgment or recognition
as of worth
merit or greatness

FOREVER means...

without ever ending
eternally
to last forever
continually
incessantly
always
an endless period of time
forever and a day

Psalms 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who by understanding mad the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever;
the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever;
with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever;
but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who led his people through the wilderness, for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who struck down great kings, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and killed mighty kings, for his steadfast love endures forever;
Sihon, king of the Amorites, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and Og, king of Bashan, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and gave their land as a heritage, for his steadfast love endures forever;
a heritage to Israel his servant, for his steadfast love endures forever.
It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever;
and rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever;
he who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Wisdom's Poem

Proverbs 8:1-9:12

Does not wisdom call?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
On the heights beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:

"To you, O men, I call,
and my cry is to the children of man.
O simple ones, learn prudence;
O fools, learn sense.
Hear, for I will speak noble things,
and from my lips will come what is right,
for my mouth will utter truth;
wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them
They are all straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge.
Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.
I have counsel and sound wisdom;
I have insight; I have strength.
By me kings reign,
and rulers decree what is just;
by me princes rule,
and nobles, all who govern justly.
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me.
Riches and honor are with me,
enduring wealth and righteousness.
My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold,
and my yield than choice silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness,
in the paths of justice,
granting an inheritance to those who love me,
and filling their treasuries.
The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of old.
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth,
before he had made the earth with its fields,
or the first of the dust of the world.
When he established the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the foundations of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
then I was beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the children of man.
And now, O sons, listen to me:
blessed are those who keep my ways.
Hear instruction and be wise,
and and do not neglect it.
Blessed is the one who listens to e,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death."

Wisdom has built her house;
she has hewn her seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,
"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!"
To him who lacks sense she says,
"Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
Leave your simple ways, and live,
and walk in the way of insight."
Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

The first time I read this, (a couple months ago) it caught me off guard because I have never read it before. Or if I had read it, I apparently didn't pay attention. When I slowed down and read the words, trying to understand what they were saying I found myself in awe. So I tucked the words away and forgot about them, like usual. But I came across them again tonight while I was searching for a completely different passage, and once again I was caught in awe. The words are so delicate, and yet so easy to understand. My mind runs at about... well... think of the fastest thing you've ever seen and then imagine something running faster than that, that's my mind. So it's really hard for me to calm my thoughts, calm my mind, shut everything out for even just enough time to read a few chapters in the Bible. I did manage to do it tonight. I even managed to get some of my thoughts outside my head and typed out...

So...

Let us answer the call to wisdom. Wisdom is crying out to the children of men. We are children of men. you do not have to worry about her betraying you or leaving you behind. There is nothing twisted or crooked in Wisdom's words. No jewel or gem we could imagine could compare to Wisdom. Kings rule and princes rule under her influence. Her harvest is more than choice silver, or fine gold. She was with God in the beginning, before the creation of this world. Blessed is the one who listens to her. For whoever finds Wisdom finds life. Whoever hates Wisdom loves death.

Father's Day for the Fatherless

Father's day is a day to celebrate, right? I think it's very easy to celebrate for those of us who have our fathers with us. I've been seeing post after post on Facebook about Father's Day. How everyone is so thankful for their fathers and how great life is. Not to take away from that, I think we should celebrate. But what about those of us out there who don't have a dad, what about the ones who either lost their dad or he's never around to be a real dad? What about those people? I'm thinking of my friends... I have a few who don't have dads, the ones who live with a single mom or with grandparents. How are they supposed to celebrate Father's Day? It's a puzzle I don't know that I have all the pieces to. The only place I know to turn to for answers is the Bible. So this is to all of you who don't have a father to celebrate Father's Day with. Just know you do have a father in heaven who's always there, who will never forsake you and who will never ever leave you. He is a father, (the father) to the fatherless and we are called to be his children.

1 John 3:1-3
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Psalm 68:5
Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation

(Just a side note... go back and read the whole chapter of Psalm 68 to get a little perspective.)

Temptation

My school for this evening:

Six verses in the bible that talk about temptation are listed below.  In Genesis 3 Eve was tempted with the will of a human heart. Not the will of God. She had a human desire, and gave into her desires. Jesus was tempted in the dessert with worldly things by Satin. But Jesus did not give in, thus he was still pure and sinless, so He was still able to die on the cross and take on our sins. 1 John 2:16 explains the human desire behind both the Genesis and the Luke passages, (worldly desires). The bible has many verses on Temptation so I only shared a few. My personal favorite is in James, "Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God,' for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one." Which leaves two other choices. The temptations are either from this world which really has nothing to offer you except death, and then there's Satin, satin tempts with worldly things and if you give into his temptations, you will be judged and sent to live with him forever. How's that sound? Life in Hell is enough to scare me. Just remember, God is faithful (1 Corinthians 10:13) and He hasn't left you to live this life on your own.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

James 1:12-16

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

Hebrews 2:18

For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Mark 14:38

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Luke 22:40

And when he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."

We Can... "Only Imagine"

Like I did in one of my later posts *
I took a song and I typed out the words
so you could read the words without
actually listening to its music.
I'm going to do the same here.
It's very sobering to read the words
of a meaningful song and let them sink in.
Sometimes I find it easier to do this
when there's music behind the words
but most often, it's the opposite.
Usually I'm so used to hearing the song
it actually sinks in more when I just read the words.
So I typed the words out and
I hope it helps you in your walk with the Lord.
And if you're not currently walking with the Lord,
maybe it's time.
Don't fool yourselves... we all need the exercise.

"I can only imagine,
what it will be like
when I walk by your side.
I can only imagine,
what my eyes will see
when your face is before me.
I can only imagine,
I can only imagine.
Surrounded by your glory,
what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus?
Or in all of you be still?
Will I stand in your presence?
Or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine,
I can only imagine.
I can only imagine,
when that day comes
when I find myself
standing in the son.
I can only imagine,
when all I will do is forever,
forever worship you.

A Simple Prayer Answered

I turned my alarm off Thursday night and Friday morning I woke up at 6:30… without an alarm. The next morning, Saturday I also woke up at 6:30 without an alarm because I had forgot to turn it back on the previous night. I knew if I didn’t set my alarm on Saturday night for Sunday morning my times would all get wacked. I knew I couldn’t wake myself up 3 days in a row without an alarm and I knew I was going to get out of routine. So I was going to set my alarm Saturday night in my room for the next morning but my 2 little brothers, (Eli and Sam) were up late Saturday night and didn’t want to go to bed so Sam asked me if he could sleep with me. I had a kitchen full of dishes to do so I said he’d have to wait until my dishes were done and then we’d go to my room and go to sleep. Dishes were done at about midnight and Sam was already fast asleep on the lazy-boy. So I just slept in the living room with him. And because I was sleeping in the living room I couldn’t set my alarm, knowing it would wake the whole house. So I prayed to God… (a silly prayer maybe) but I asked him if he would be so kind as to allow me to wake up in the morning at 6:30. Sure enough at about 4:30 in the morning I woke up with an ear infection… thus I was awake for the rest of the night. Which means I was up at 6:30. If you’ve ever had an ear infection I don’t have to explain the pain that it causes, almost unbearable really. So Sunday night I was dreading to go to bed because that’s when all the pain comes back. And with that level of pain it is impossible to sleep. I knew this would lead to a Monday with no sleep, in other words me being cranky. So, as I was getting ready for bed… lying in bed waiting for my ear to start hurting I thought, well maybe I could ask for it not to hurt tonight… so I prayed and asked the Lord if it was in his will and if he wanted that he could give me a night without pain so I could sleep. Just a quick note; earlier that evening I wrote out the first chapter in James and it was talking about how those who doubt are like waves that are tossed among the sea. So I was lying in bed with that chapter going through my head. So I said… “Well, Lord, I know you can give me a painless night, if it’s your will. And I don’t want to be a wave tossed among the sea so I don’t doubt your power, I believe if you want to give me a night of sleep you can. Please, just let me have a painless and full night of sleep?” I was going to be alright if he answered with a “no” but I was also going to be alright if he answered with a “yes.” This morning I woke up at 6:30 when my alarm went off and I had no pain, I slept through the whole night, no problems. One more quick note; if you get an ear infection they last about a week, at least mine do, sometimes they last a little shorter. I get one almost every time I get sick. Usually you’ll have the pain for about a week and then you can’t hear for another week or two. I have never, ever only had one for a single night. I still can’t hear and that’ll last a while but there is no pain. J

Fear Is Just A Lie

Fear Is Just A Lie - Mike Donehey - Video Journal

A Prayer of Humility

These are the words of a hymn but let us try to look at them as the words of a prayer, a prayer of humility.

How deep the Father's love for us,
how vast beyond all measure.
That he should give his only son,
to make a wretch his treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss,
the Father turned his face away.
As wounds which mar the chosen one,
bring many sons to glory.
Behold the man upon a cross,
my sin upon his shoulders.
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice,
call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held him there,
until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life;
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything:
no gifts, no power, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ;
his death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from his reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart:
his wounds have paid my ransom.

We are those who's voice is mocking along with the scoffers. We are the reason the Father had to turn his face away from the Son. We are the wretch who has been turned into a treasure, into "His" treasure. Why should we be His treasure? Why should we gain from His reward? What if God is trying to show us His grace. For the bible says in Ephesians... "But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift." A gift of grace...? What a sweet, humbling thought. The bible also states in the book of James: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” So first we must let go of the grip we have on pride, and then open our hands wide to the gift of grace He offers so freely.

Simple Women's Daybook

Outside my window... the dark of night is creeping in.
I am thinking... I've never gone frog giggin'.
I am thankful... for the blanket of snow that gently covers Grassy.
In the kitchen... my plant is trying desperately to sprout roots.
I am wearing... a self-crafted ankle bracelet.
I am creating... a book of prayers.
I am going... to write a letter to a dear friend tomorrow.
I am wondering... what lurks in the shadows outside my room.
I am reading... the book of James.
I am hoping... to live out James 1:19-20 daily in my life.
I am looking forward to... waking tomorrow to see the daylight creep through the cracks in my door.
I am learning... slowly but surely that the Word of God is the true and only bread of life.
Around the house... everyone is sleeping as I listen to the quiet creaks of the house.
I am pondering... on the friendships that are entrusted to me. A true privilege.
A favorite quote for today... "Am I a prisoner of what I've lost?."
One of my favorite things... is to go fishing.
A few plans for the rest of the week... are to meet my deadlines.
A peek into my day... Ummm... well... you don't get a peak into my day.

A picture worth sharing...

Delicate Words of a Psalmist

Why do You stand afar off, O Lord?
Why do You hide in times of trouble?
The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire;
He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.
The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God;
God is in none of his thoughts.
His ways are always prospering;
Your judgments are far above, out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.
He has said in his heart, "I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity."
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression;
Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.
He sits in the lurking places of the villages;
In the secret places he murders the innocent;
His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.
He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den;
He lies in wait to catch the poor;
He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.
So he crouches, he lies low,
That the helpless may fall by his strength.
He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see."
Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand!
Do not forget the humble.
Why do the wicked renounce God?
He has said in his heart, "You will not require an account."
But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief,
To repay it by Your hand.
The helpless commits himself to You;
You are the helper of the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man;
Seek out his wickedness until You find none.
The Lord is King forever and ever;
The nations have perished out of His land.
Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will prepare their heart;
You will cause Your ear to hear,
To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
That the man of the earth may oppress no more.
